The Marquette Senior High School Redettes varsity soccer team shut out the visiting Eagle River high school team by a score of 2-0. Keeper, Kathryn Shearer, made a few key saves and the strong defense of Laura Nezich, allowed the Marquette squad to shut down the Eagle River offense. Olivia Montgomery scored the winning goal off of a penalty kick early in the match.

North State BMX kicked off its season on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the River Park Sports Complex in Marquette, Michigan despite near freezing temperatures and a light drizzle. North State held an open house, swap meet and new rider registration for anyone wishing to try out the olympic sport. Plenty of veterans were on hand to help out the younger riders and also to shake off the rust on their bikes that have been sitting all winter.

Marquette Senior High School hosted a May Madness Youth Basketball tournament on May 3-4 in Marquette, Michigan. Several boys and girls teams ranging in age from 9 - 14 years of age participated in the tournament.

The Scandinavian Midsummer Festival benefit dance was held at the Masonic Temple in downtown Marquette from 1-5pm on Sunday, May 4, 2008. Over 80 people were in attendance at the dance and the event raised over $300 with the music provided by the Backwoods Boys Polka Band.
